Stigler hands Sallisaw first district defeat; Central pitcher no-hits Arkoma

STIGLER — The Stigler Panthers handed the Sallisaw Black Diamonds their first District 4A-8 defeat Tuesday night, as the hosts prevailed 8-2.

STIGLER — The Stigler Panthers handed the Sallisaw Black Diamonds their first District 4A-8 defeat Tuesday night, as the hosts prevailed 8-2.

After the Black Diamonds (173 overall, 8-1 in district play) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, the Panthers (18-3, 6-3) took the lead for good with a five-run second inning to take a 5-1 lead after two innings. After Sallisaw cut its deficit to 5-2 in the third inning, Stigler sealed the deal with a two-run third inning and a run in the fifth inning.

In defeat, Creed Nelson tripled, while Luke Pack and Broque Oft singled for Sallisaw’s three hits off Stigler starter Evan Williams, who threw a three-hitter and struck out 16 batters.

Easton Wolfe (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season, going the first two innings. Coleman Wasson got the next two outs, then Brodie Cameron went the final 3.1 innings with two strikeouts.

CENTRAL 11, ARKOMA 0, 4 INN.

Tuesday afternoon at Central High School, the Tigers (9-13) got a no-hitter from Kiefer Bailey (5-2) as he struck out five batters in four innings.

The Tigers scored twice in the first inning, four runs in the second inning and three runs in the third inning for a 9-0 lead. a two-run, walk-off fourth inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Aidan Sainer was 2-for-4 with three runs batted in and a run scored, Ryker Miller was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and Kyle Harden was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored for Central, which has canceled its road game this afternoon at Cameron due to the Good Friday/Easter weekend holiday.

WEBBERS FALLS 6, MCCURTAIN 4

Tuesday at Eual Carter Sports Complex, the Warriors (10-121) snapped a two-game losing streak with the home win.

After the Bulldogs (2-10) cut the deficit to 3-2 in the fourth inning, the Warriors scored twice in their half of the frame to up their advantage to 5-2. The ’Dogs cut their deficit to 6-4 in the seventh inning but got no closer.

For the game, Brutus Robinson was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs batted in and scored once, while Caden McNamara doubled and scored twice for Webbers Falls.

Robinson (1-3) got his first win of the season, going the first six innings with eight strikeouts. Ryan Cowan went the final inning with a strikeout.

VIAN 9, TALIHINA 1, 6 INN.

Tuesday afternoon in Talihina, after the Golden Tigers (12-8) took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning, the Wolverines (215) put the game into run-rule status with a six-run fourth inning and a three-run fifth inning.

For the contest, Draighton Fletcher was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Michael Polecat was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and a run scored and Chris Cheater was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI for Vian, which began its three-day stay in the Checotah Tournament on Thursday.

Manny Terrill (4-0) got the complete-game victory as he struck out two batters and scattered seven hits.

GORE 6, PORUM 0

Tuesday afternoon in Porum, the Pirates (14-7) got a fourhitter from James Brasuell (5-2) as he struck out 17 batters in seven innings.

The Pirates scored once in the first inning, twice in the third and fifth innings and once in the seventh inning.

For the game, Tate Brooksher was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Kason Short was 2-for-3 and. Kyler McGee was 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Gore.

POTEAU 4, MULDROW 3

Tuesday evening in Muldrow, the Pirates (10-11 overall, 2-8 in District 4A-8 play) rallied from 3-0 deficit with a four-run sixth inning.

In defeat, Jonah Claborn was 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored, Jackson Phillips was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run batted in and Brody Israel was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Jace Prewett (1-4) suffered the loss, despite getting nine strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Jack Rhodes went the final 1.1 innings.

MORRIS 8, ROLAND 7

Tuesday afternoon in Morris, the Eagles (5-16 overall, 3-9 in District 3A-8) completed the district sweep of the Rangers (2-14, 1-7).

There was no more information available at press time.

LEFLORE 13, GANS 2, 3 INN.

Tuesday afternoon in Leflore, the Savages (11-5) scored five runs in the first inning and eight runs in the second inning for a 13-0 lead to put the game into run-rule status. The Grizzlies (09) got their two runs in the third inning to avoid the shutout.

In defeat, Jarret Frazier-Barter doubled, while Brenden Strickland singled for the only hits for Gans.
