Gore hurdlers win titles at Porter Pirate Invite

PORTER — Two Gore hurdlers claimed titles at last Friday’s Porter Consolidated Pirate Invitational.

In each hurdle event, the Pirates had three hurdles place.

In the 110-meter hurdles, it was a 1-3-5 finish for the Pirates as Weston Cunningham was first (17.03 seconds), Devon Mannon was third (18.15) and Trenton Cunningham was fifth (18.97), scoring 18 of the Pirates’ 34 points — which put them seventh in the team standings.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Mannon took the gold medal with a winning time of 42.36 seconds, with Trenton Cunningham finishing fourth (45.45 seconds) and Weston Cunningham placing fifth (45.75), giving Gore 16 more points to give the Pirates their team score of 34 points.

The Vian Wolverines had a 2-3 finish in the high jump as Austin Wilson was second (5-4) and Kyle King was third (5-2).

Five locals placed in the girls’ 800-meter run as Vian’s Blazi Dieter was fourth (2:44.06), Gore’s Amelia White was eighth (2:58.9), Vian’s Carmen Rautenberg was 10th (3:00.91), Gore’s Ricki Huckbay was 16th (3:14.67) and Vian’s Maya Silos was 22nd (3:38.57).

Vian’s Emery Smith was fifth (30-3), Gore’s River Shoemake was 12th (27-2), Gore’s Katlyn West was 33rd (16-7) and Gore’s Bailey Pack was 34th (16-4) in the shot put, while Smith was sixth in the discus (75-6).

Vian’s Nathen Cheater was fifth (38-2) and Gore’s Marcus Scott was 14th (33-1.5) in the shot put, while Scott was eighth in the discus (89-4).

Vian’s Brooke Byers was fifth in the high jump (4-2), while Wilson was seventh (58.36 seconds), Vian’s Braxton Drake was 14th (1:01.26) and Gore’s Grant Davis was 22nd (1:07.3) in the 400-meter dash. The Lady Wolverines’ 800-meter relay team of Annie Neal, Sidney Cox, Tina Rautenberg and Byers was seventh (2:02.65).

Weston Cunningham was eighth (24.77 seconds), Gore’s Cole Brooksher was 12th (25.13), Vian’s Ricky Wolfe was 18th (26.49) and Vian’s Spencer Dick was 27th (29.53) in the 200-meter dash.

White was ninth in the girls’ 400-meter dash (1:11.34), Huckbay was ninth in the 1,600-meter run (7:30.68), Tina Rautenberg was ninth (21.99 seconds) and Vian’s Kylie Covie was 10th (29.22) in the 100-meter hurdles and Rautenberg was ninth in the 300-meter hurdles (56.05).

Neal was 11th in the girls’ long jump (12-5.25) and was 18th in the 100-meter dash (14.98 seconds). Gore’s Gracie Bruce was 31st (15.68), Gore’s Sophie O’Connor was 32nd (15.77) and Vian’s Eva Lee was 39th (16.96) in the 100-meter dash.

Cox was 13th (30.14 seconds), Bruce was 27th (32.39), Byers was 29th (32.45), Covie was 32nd (34.43) and O’Connor was 35th (35.23) in the 200-meter dash.

Shoemake was 16th (57-8), West was 26th (454) and Pack was 30th (38-3) in the girls’ discus.

Brooksher was 17th (12.92 seconds) and Wolfe was 29th (13.46) in the 100-meter dash, and Davis was 16th (2:41.32) in the 800-meter run.

Both Vian track teams made the team points list as the Wolverines were 12th on the boys side with 16 points, while the Lady Wolverines also were 12th on the girls side with nine points.
