Semi crash claims life of trucker
An Arkansas man was killed early Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate-40, about two miles east of Muldrow, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
An Arkansas man was killed early Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 40, about two miles east of Muldrow, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The fatal collision occurred at around 6:07 a.m. on April 29, near mile marker 323 in the eastbound lanes of I-40.
Authorities say the victim, identified as Derick Turner, 47, of Paris, was driving a 2007 Freightliner semi-truck when the vehicle veered off the highway to the left and struck a cable barrier. The semi continued traveling through the center median and collided with a concrete bridge wall before plunging about 50 feet onto old Highway 64 below.
The truck came to rest and caught fire, according to the report. Turner was pronounced dead at the scene.
The condition of the driver at the time of the crash and the cause of the collision remain under investigation.
Trooper Joshua Aden of the Sequoyah County detachment of Troop C led the investigation, with assistance from Troopers Kyle Henson and Michael Wood of Troop S.
