Cherokee Nation calendar of events for May

May 9

Innovation Hub is hosting a “How to Do Business with the Cherokee Nation” workshop May 9 from 11 a.m. until noon. Join the Cherokee Nation Commerce Team along with a panel of procurement experts from Cherokee Nation entities. Participants will learn processes and gain knowledge on how to do business with the Cherokee Nation. Contact innovation-hub@cherokee.org or 918-772-4144 for more information. Tickets are $5 and there will be concession and t-shirts available to purchase.

Cherokee Nation Health Services is hosting breastfeeding classes from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Wilma P. Mankiller Health Center. The prenatal breastfeeding class will review feeding basics, nursing holds, milk handling and storage and common breastfeeding issues. May 10

Trail of Tears Art Show-Final Days is April 5-May 10 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Celebrate award-winning art and exceptional Native artists. The longest- running juried Native art show in Oklahoma will close its 54th annual presentation on Saturday, May 10. May 17

Wings race, Run the Streets 5K will be May 17 at 8 a.m. and the 1K Fun Run will begin at 8:30 a.m. Race day registration and packet pick up is at 7 a.m. and will end at 7:50 a.m. Run the Streets 5K is $20 and the Fun Run is $10. Behavioral Health Prevention Program will be hosting a Mental Health Awareness Day on May 17 at Norris Park from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. There will be cultural activities, games, door prizes and informational materials.

May 19

Summer Feeding Program begins May 19 and ends June 26. Breakfast and lunch will be served free to all children 18 years of age and under. Monday – Thursday, breakfast is from 7:45 a.m. until 8:15 a.m. Lunch will be 11:45 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. Closed on Fridays and Memorial Day. A Cherokee National Treasure for traditional foods, Betty Jo Smith has dedicated her life to preserving and sharing Cherokee culture. From learning to cook from her mother to decades of work at the Cherokee Heritage Center, Betty’s story is one of passing along Cherokee tradition through family. “The Center of It All: Betty Jo Smith and Her Legacy” exhibit showcases her legacy through recipes and art spanning multiple generations of the Smith family. Cherokee Nation Public Health is hosting a breastfeeding class from 1-3 p.m. in Conference Rooms A & B at the Cherokee Nation Outpatient Health Center, 19600 E. Ross St., in Tahlequah. Participants can learn about WIC, breastfeeding techniques and more. Partners are welcome. This class will be held every third Wednesday of the month.
