Lady Vikings suffer sweeps against NPC, Murray State; fall to UARM in SW Plains Tournament

By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

The Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings softball team had a rough week last week, losing twice to National Park College at home on April 29 and getting swept against Murray State College on Thursday at the Johnston County Sports Complex in Tishomingo.

The National Park College Lady Nighthawks won both games from the Lady Vikings on April 29 by scores of 10-2 in six innings and 5-4.

Then on Thursday, the Lady Aggies took care of the Lady Vikings in a pair of run-rule contests — 8-0 in five innings in the opener and 12-0 in five innings.

In the Game 1 loss to NPC, the Lady Nighthawks scored single runs in each of the first two innings, then doubled their lead to 4-0 after three innings and upped their advantage to 5-0 in the fourth inning.

After the Lady Vikings (9-39) scored twice in their half of the fourth inning to cut their deficit to 5-2 after four innings, a fiverun sixth inning for the Nighthawks put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Kyleigh Ritchie doubled and Tessa York and Brianna Taylor each singled for the only hits for the Lady Vikings.

Kinlee Basquez (3-7) took the loss, going just 1.1 innings. Sophia Abbott went the next 3.2 innings with two strikeouts, then Kami Autrey got the next two outs. Izzy Pack got the final out on a strikeout.

In the Game 2 loss to NPC, the Lady Nighthawks scored three runs in the first inning for a 3-0 lead, which became a 5-1 advantage by the third inning.

The Lady Vikings scored twice in the fifth inning and once in the seventh inning to cut their deficit to 5-4 but got no closer.

In defeat, York was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Kirsten Berry was 2-for-4 with her 10th home run of the season and two runs scored for CASC.

Abbott (4-18) suffered the loss, despite fanning six batters in seven innings.

In the opener against Murray State, MSC pitcher DrewAnn White threw a one-hitter, with that hit being a single by Braedy Wardrope.

Abbott took the loss, getting one strikeout in 4.1 innings pitched.

In the nightcap loss to Murray State, the pitching duo of Bradi Harman and White combined to one-hit the Lady Vikings, which Wardrope’s single was the only CASC hit.

Abbott took the loss, being knocked out before being able to record an out in the first inning. Pack went the next 1.2 innings with a strikeout. Autrey went the final 2.1 innings.

The postseason for the Lady Vikings also had a rough start as they lost 6-0 to Arkansas-Rich Mountain on the first day of the NJCAA Southwest Plains Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at the Johnston County Sports Complex — after being moved from Ardmore’s Regional Park due to rain.

UARM pitcher Hayden White of Red Oak threw a two-hitter with two strikeouts as Delaynie Ross and Berry each singled for the Lady Vikings.

Abbott took the loss, lasting only twothirds of the opening inning. Autrey went the final 5.1 innings.
