Local OK Kids baseball teams play in state tournaments; Sallisaw Cubs, Vian Dodgers finish 3rd

Seven local OK Kids baseball teams played in three state tournaments across the state last week.

At the Age 8-and-Younger OK State Tournament in Clinton, the Sallisaw Cubs finished tied for third place after losing 10-3 to the Blanchard Braves in Saturday afternoon’s state semifinals. They reached the state semifinals with red bracket wins over the Alva Gold Sox (by a score of 16-3), the Purcell Momentum (15-0) and the Altus Dawgs (14-10).

In the Age 6-and-Younger T-Ball OK Kids State Tournament at the Sallisaw Sports Complex, there were four local teams in the field as the Vian Dodgers finished in a tie for third after losing in the state semifinals 12-1 to the Blanchard Rangers after the Dodgers lost 19-12 to the Latta Dirtbags, beat the Sallisaw Young Guns 17-4, defeated the Checotah Hitmen 17-4, beat the Meeker Bulldogs 15-2 and defeated the Stigler Fuel 14-1 to reach the state semifinals.

As for the other three local teams in the field at the Age 6-and-Younger State Tournament, the Young Guns went 0-2 as they lost 34-33 to Meeker before being eliminated by the Dodgers.

The Muldrow Hot Shots and the Muldrow Okies each went 0-2. The Hot Shots suffered losses to the eventual state runner-up Oklahoma Lookouts of Poteau (18-0) and to the Morrison Kitties (25-24), while the Okies lost 14-7 to Meeker and 12-5 to the Ada Bananas.

Also in the Age 8-and-Younger State Tournament, the Vian Wolverines went 1-2 in blue bracket play, losing 8-6 to the Sentinel Bulldogs, beating the Washington Warriors 9-6 and losing 17-6 to the Wister Wildcats.

In the Age 12-and-Younger OK Kids State Tournament in Weatherford, the Vian Wolverines went 1-2 in red bracket play, losing 24-1 to the Sulphur Bulldogs, defeating the Elk City Firefrogs 5-4 and falling 4-3 to the host Weatherford Eagles.
