Lady Diamonds sweep district foe Idabel

IDABEL — The Sallisaw Lady Diamonds picked up their first District 4A-6 wins of the season as they convincingly swept the host Idabel Lady Warriors by scores of 22-6 and 18-8 on Tuesday afternoon.

In the opener, the Lady Diamonds (4-5 overall, 2-2 in district play) broke a scoreless tie with a seven-run second inning for a 7-0 lead.

After the Lady Warriors cut their deficit to 7-4 after two innings, the Lady Diamonds put the game into run-rule status with a 15-run third inning.

For the contest, Natalie Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with a double, four runs batted in and three runs scored, Sydney Weedon was 2-for-3 with two doubles, five RBIs and three runs scored, Delaney Compton was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, Brinley Mills doubled with three runs scored and two RBIs and Jaycie Cox doubled with two runs scored and an RBI for Sallisaw.

Compton (3-5) got the win, throwing a three-inning three-hitter and striking out two batters.

In the nightcap in which the Lady Diamonds were the home team, after the Lady Warriors took a 6-0 lead in the second inning, the Lady Diamonds used a two-run second inning and a three-run third inning to cut their deficit to 6-5 after three innings.

After Idabel increased its advantage to 8-5 in the fourth inning, the Lady Diamonds scored 10 runs in the fourth inning and three runs in the fifth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Gonzalez was 3-for-3 with a triple, four runs scored and three RBIs, Weedon was 3-for-4 with two triples, four RBIs and three runs scored, Compton was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI, Channing Wilson doubled with three RBIs and a run scored and Jentri Burkart doubled with two RBIs and two runs scored for Sallisaw.

JoLee Curson (1-0) got her first win of the season, going the first four innings with two strikeouts. Compton went the final inning with two strikeouts.

SEQUOYAH-TAHLEQUAH 8, ROLAND 1

Tuesday in Roland, the Lady Indians scored single runs in the second and the third innings to break a scoreless tie for a 2-0 lead. A two-run fourth inning and a four-run fifth inning upped their advantage to 8-0.

The lone run for the Rangers (3-4 overall, 1-2 in District 3A-6 play) scored their lone run on Addyson Clark’s RBI single in the fifth inning.

In defeat, Clark was 3-for-4 with a run batted in, while Adriana Moya doubled for Roland.

McKinna Cooper (3-4) suffered the loss, despite fanning three batters in five innings. Kyleigh Knapp went the final two innings in relief.

CAMERON/ARKOMA 18, GANS 8

Tuesday in Gans, the Lady Grizzlies (0-5) lost their home opener.

After the Lady Grizzlies took an 8-5 lead after four innings, the visitors scored four runs in the fifth inning, once in the sixth inning and eight runs in the seventh inning to get the comefrom- behind win.

In defeat, Makenzy Hunter was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Abigail Leach was 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored for Gans.

Leach (0-5) suffered the loss, despite striking out 13 batters. The Lady Grizzlies made seven errors in the game, accounting for 11 unearned runs.

POCOLA 13, CENTRAL 3, 6 INN.

Tuesday in Pocola, the Lady Indians, who led 6-3 after three innings, scored five runs in the fourth inning and twice in the sixth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Brenleigh Allen was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and a run batted in, Charlie Petree doubled and Keeley Poindexter doubled with an RBI for Central (1-6, 0-1 in District 2A12 play). Addison Howard (1-1) suffered the loss.

MCCURTAIN 8, GORE 6

Tuesday in McCurtain, the Lady Bulldogs, who trailed 4-3 in the fifth inning, scored five runs in the fifth inning to take the lead for good at 8-4 after five innings. The Lady Pirates (2-2) scored twice in the seventh inning, but their rally fell short.

In defeat, Jemma Peevy was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in, Hallie Brewer doubled with two RBIs and River Shoemake doubled with an RBI and a run scored for Gore.

Peevy (0-2) took the loss, going the first 4.1 innings with seven strikeouts. Alevia Reasnor went the final 1.2 innings with three Ks.

KEOTA 12, WEBBERS FALLS 2, 4 INN.

Tuesday in Keota, after the Lady Warriors (0-5) cut their deficit to 3-2 in the fourth inning, the Lady Lions roared back with a nine-run fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

Keota pitcher Jaycee Byrd threw a four-inning no-hitter against the Lady Warriors, striking out five batters.

Rhilee Jones took the loss for Webbers Falls.
