Black Diamonds fall in season opener to Pryor
PRYOR — For the first time in two seasons, the Sallisaw Black Diamonds football team suffered a season-opening loss.
The Pryor Tigers broke open a close game by scoring the final 29 points over the final two-plus quarters to post a 45-22 victory in Friday night’s Zero Week season opener.
The Black Diamonds (0-1) scored twice in the first quarter on touchdown runs by Kase Adams and Kenyan Hill. Elijah Hill scored the two-point conversion after Adams’ TD, while Cito Morales kicked the extra point after the second score. Sallisaw trailed 16-15 after the first period.
Caden Blount caught a touchdown pass from Adams in the second quarter for the final Sallisaw TD. Morales hit the PAT to put the Black Diamonds ahead 22-16 with 7:52 left before halftime.
The Tigers (1-0) scored twice in the final 7:52 to take a 31-22 halftime lead, then shut out the Black Diamonds 14-0 in the second half.
The Black Diamonds will play their home opener against the Stigler Panthers at 7 p.m. this Friday at Perry F. Lattimore Stadium.
Cheer Night will be celebrated prior to the game at 6:30 p.m.
