Lady Diamonds lose district road game to Broken Bow after losses in Eufaula tournament

By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

The Sallisaw Lady Diamonds softball team suffered a road District 4A-6 loss on Monday afternoon as they were handled 16-1 by the host Broken Bow Lady Savages.

That loss came on the heels of a oneday, two-loss stay for the Lady Diamonds at the 2025 Softball Tournament at Lake Eufaula on Thursday as they lost both of their games, 5-0 to Hartshorne and 14-2 to Sperry.

In Monday’s road district loss to Broken Bow, Broken Bow pitching threehit the Lady Diamonds (6-10 overall, 3-5 in district play).

The Lady Savages had a 3-0 lead after an inning, which became a 7-0 lead after two innings and a 13-0 lead after three innings.

The lone run for Sallisaw scored on Channing Wilson’s RBI single, scoring Sydney Weedon, in the third inning, but Broken Bow put the game into run-rule status with a three-run fourth inning.

In defeat, Weedon doubled and scored the lone run, Wilson hit an RBI single and JoLee Curson singled for Sallisaw.

Curson (1-4) took the loss, despite getting three strikeouts in four innings.

In Thursday’s to Hartshorne, Hartshorne pitcher Saraya Bills threw a six-inning five-hitter with four strikeouts.

The Lady Miners scored twice in the first inning, once in the fifth inning and twice in the sixth inning.

In defeat, Jaycie Cox was 2-for-3, while Natalie Gonzalez, Weedon and Wilson each singled for Sallisaw. Curson suffered the loss.

In Thursday’s loss to Sperry, the Lady Pirates put away the game early as they scored four runs in the first inning, six runs in the second inning and four runs in the third inning to put the contest into run-rule status.

The Lady Diamonds scored twice in the third inning on Cox’s RBI double and Brinley Mills’ RBI single, but the rally was not enough to keep the game going.

In defeat, Cox was 2-for-2 with an RBI double and a run scored, Mills had an RBI single and Wilson and Jentri Burkart each singled for Sallisaw, which will make up the Aug. 28 home District 4A-6 game against Eufaula at 3:30 this afternoon.

Curson took the loss, but she only allowed six earned runs as the other eight runs scored due to five Sallisaw errors.
