Bulldogs seniors looking for bigger, better things in 2025 campaign
For the second straight year, the Muldrow Bulldogs football team knocked off the archrival Roland Rangers in the season opener, which makes the ’Dogs feel pretty good about themselves.
“It was pretty fun,” senior Gabe Miller said about last week’s road win over the Rangers. “I was glad we beat them again. It was a very good win.”
Last year after the Bulldogs opened the season with a win over the Rangers, it propelled them to a five-game winning streak to begin the season. The ’Dogs believe they can even do better than that.
“We should go more than five games (winning streak to begin the season),” senior Kade Scott said. “We have a good group of guys. We should exceed what we did last year.”
The Bulldogs and coach Logan Coatney believe they are better than last season’s 5-5 team that missed the playoffs. The ’Dogs not only believe more wins are on the horizon this season, but a Week 11 game — meaning an openinground Class 4A playoff game. “We’ve put in the work over the summer,” senior Teaguen Collins said. “We’ve all gotten better. We return a lot of guys from last year. We’re looking for a great push (for success this season).”
Last year, the Bulldogs won their home opener — beating the Rangers in the 2024 version of “The Battle of 64.” The ’Dogs would like nothing more than to repeat the same feat in 2025 — in which case they would knock off the Bulldogs from Waldron, Ark.
“It means a lot,” senior DeShawn Willson said about the importance of winning tonight’s home opener. “The environment you set with the first game is big. Most people want to (watch) a team that’s winning. Hopefully, after you’ve won your first game, they want to come back to the next one. It should be a pretty great environment (for tonight’s home opener).”
It will be a special night tonight as there’s going to be a celebration of 70 years of Muldrow football, with several players from the 1955-56 teams going to be in attendance. The current Bulldogs are glad to be a part of the legacy of Muldrow Bulldogs football.
“It’s very special, so we’re going to have to put out a good show for them,” senior J’Vion Mays said. “This season, we have a legacy to carry on. We know there’s a place we want to get to at the end of the season (Class 4A State Championship Game).”
