Looking ahead to Thanksgiving
Franklin Delano Roosevelt is known for quite a few achievements we often take for granted. He established Social Security, the minimum wage and the 40-hour work week. His “New Deal” introduced programs, regulations and public work projects to combat the Great Depression. He created the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to regulate financial markets and insure bank deposits. He implemented programs to stabilize farm prices and provide aid to farmers. He played a major role in forming the United Nations. And after he identified Dec. 7, 1941, as “a day that will live in infamy,” he helped craft the Allied victory in World War II.
