Former Sallisaw grappler places 2nd in Drury Open for UCO

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Former Sallisaw Black Diamonds wrestler Cole Mayfield, who ended his high school career as a three-time state champion, placed second at 157 pounds in the Drury Open on Nov. 15.

Mayfield, a freshman at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, received a first-round bye, then defeated Arkansas-Little Rock wrestler Marco Dalakishvili 4-1 in the quarterfinals and pinned University of the Ozarks wrestler Julian Banda in 5:33 in the semifinals, which put him in the finals against fellow UCO Broncho wrestler Hayze Ivey — who was awarded the 157-pound champion.
