Gans splits conference games at Arkoma
ARKOMA — The Gans High School basketball teams split their Riverside Conference road games against the host Arkoma squads Tuesday night at Neil Brannon Gymnasium.
The Lady Grizzlies won for the third straight game, downing the Lady Mustangs 4126, but the Grizzlies lost for the fifth consecutive time to begin the season as they fell 47-31.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Grizzlies (3-2) jumped out to a 16-6 lead after a quarter en route to a 27 15 halftime advantage and a 37-17 lead going into the final period.
For the game, Nora Barnes scored a game-high 17 points and Skilynn Bird added 16 points to lead Gans, while Brighton Dorsey and Valan Harper added four points apiece.
In the boys’ contest, the Mustangs enjoyed a 16-7 lead after a period en route to a 22-13 advantage at halftime. The Grizzlies (0-5) rallied in the third quarter, outscoring the Mustangs 9-8 in the period, to cut their deficit to 30-22 heading into the fourth quarter. However, a 17-9 final period for Arkoma sealed the deal.
In defeat, Austin Hines led Gans with eight points, followed by Jessie Phillips with seven points, Bryce Stevens with five points, Aiden Garcia with three points and Eli Blackmon, Jasper Green, Michael Christopherson and Preston Bennett with two points apiece.
