Construction begins on U.S. 59 north of Sallisaw

The orange signs have been displayed in downtown Sallisaw since September, alerting drivers to work zones and highway construction, but there was no immediate evidence of any progress.

Now drone photos over U.S. 59 north of Sallisaw show early stages of earth moving and redirection of the highway from the old Taco Ranch to about 1050 Road. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has not released specifics about the construction project, which is likely to take years to complete.
