Burn ban declared for Sequoyah County
At a special meeting Thursday, Sequoyah County Commissioners declared a seven-day burn ban for the county, effective immediately.
Emergency Management Director Todd Harris announced the ban, noting that depending on possible rains over the weekend, the commissioners will likely reassess the restriction at their weekly meeting on Monday.
At their meeting last Monday, the commissioners declined to implement the ban, citing an absence of necessary criteria. That changed, however, in a matter of days.
The current burn ban is the first for the county since October 2024.
