Sallisaw soccer teams split season-opening matches
VAN BUREN, Ark. — The Sallisaw High School soccer teams split their regularseason opening matches Tuesday evening with the Van Buren, Ark., squads.
The Lady Diamonds got the night started with a 4-1 win over the Lady Pointers, but the Black Diamonds fell 8-1 to the Pointers.
In the girls’ match, the Lady Diamonds (1-0) got a pair of goals from Bella Morales and a goal apiece from Aria Kyser and Emilie Robbins.
In the boys’ match, Wes Rodriguez scored the lone goal for the Black Diamonds (0-1), whose junior varsity team lost 2-0.
The Sallisaw teams were slated to begin play in the three-day Muskogee Tournament on Thursday.
The Sallisaw teams will have their regular-season opening home matches on Tuesday against Grove at Perry F. Lattimore Stadium. The girls’ match will be at 5:30 p.m., followed by the boys’ contest at 7:30 p.m.
