High school powerlifters qualify for state meet in El Reno

Several local high school powerlifters will be competing at this week’s state meet in El Reno after earning either automatic bids or at-large bids to state from their respective regional meet last week.

The Sallisaw Black Diamonds high school team qualified several powerlifters to state from the Class 4A Regional Meet last Thursday in Muskogee as those placing in the top five earned automatic bids to state.

Bo Blackett was the regional champion at 123 pounds with a total lift of 865 pounds.

Sallisaw had a 2-3 finish at 157 pounds as Tanner Metheny was regional runner-up (885 pounds total lifted) and Connor Hancock was third (840).

Cade Tate was third at 242 pounds with a total lift of 1,285 pounds Tyler Neer was third at 123 pounds in the freshmen division with a total lift of 595 pounds.

Blake Lamb was fifth at 168 pounds after his total lift of 1,005 pounds earned him a trip to state.

Cash Girdner was fifth in the freshmen division at 242 pounds after his total lift of 965 pounds.

Another fifth-place powerlifter was William Arnold as he was fifth at 275 pounds had he lifted 955 pounds total.

Anthony Adame, who was sixth at 181 pounds as he had a total lift of 1,075, earned an at-large bid to state.

Garrett Deel was another sixth-place finisher in his weight division to earn an at-large state bid as he was sixth at heavyweight with a total lift of 1,300 pounds even.

Kenyan Hill and Talon Flynn each earned at-large bids to state at 198 pounds. Hill was seventh (1,120 total pounds lifted) and Flynn was eighth (1,105).

Fysher Armstrong was sixth at 168 pounds with a total of 840 pounds lifted but missed out on a state berth.

Grayson Grinstead was eighth (1,040 pounds) and Brayden Bridges was 10th (1,030) at 275 pounds, but neither got an at-large berth to state.

Aiden Smith was ninth at 198 pounds with a lift of 1,065 pounds total, but just missed the cut for making state.

At the Class 4A Regional Meet at Hartshorne, the Muldrow High School and junior high powerlifters competed with several earning berths to this week’s state meet in El Reno.

In last Thursday’s high school regional, nine Bulldogs earned state berths, with three regional champions and a regional runner-up in the mix.

Freshmen Zaylenny Williams (132 pounds, with a total of 815 pounds lifted), Alex Rodriguez (145, 835 pounds lifted) and Xavier Coby (heavyweight, 1,275 pounds lifted) all were regional champions.

Alejandro Santacruz was a regional runner-up at 220 pounds with a total of 1,310 pounds lifted.

Gabe Smalley (157 pounds, with 1,000 pounds total lifted), Dillon Turner (168, 665 pounds lifted) and Israel Moss (heavyweight, 965 pounds lifted) all finished third.

David Keenan (123 pounds, with a total of 705 pounds lifted) and freshman Ethan Kosier (123, 455 pounds lifted) were fifth.

In last Wednesday’s junior high school regional, Landon Brown was 10th at 198 pounds as he lifted a total of 735 pounds to earn an at-large bid to state.

At the Class A Regional Meet at Hartshorne, both the Central Tigers and the Gore Pirates saw powerlifters qualify for state.

For Central, Riley Walters was fourth at 132 pounds with a total lift of 620 pounds to earn a trip to state as lifted who placed in the top five in each weight division earned automatic state berths.

Oden Boston, competing at 220 pounds, earned a state berth with his fifth-place finish with a total of 895 pounds lifted.

At 220 pounds, Braxton Prewett was sixth with a total of 1,135 pounds to earn him an at-large bid to state to give the Tigers a trio of state qualifiers.

In the junior high division, Jaxton Poindexter was fourth at 145 pounds with a total lift of 680 pounds to qualify for state in the eighth-grade division.

Mason Louthan placed seventh with a total lift of 875 pounds in the 198-pound division but missed out on an at-large bid to state.

Also placing seventh was Colby Henning at heavyweight with a total of 1,100 pounds lifted but missed out on an automatic bid to state.

At 220 pounds, Jayson Standige was ninth with a total lift of 940 pounds.

Ian Greer had a total lift of 295 pounds in the 157-pound division but did not place.

At 220 pounds, Muhammad Salar lifted a total of 690 pounds, while Grady Taylor had a total of 545 pounds lifted, but neither placed.

Matthew Berton had a total lift of 980 pounds in the 275-pound division but did not get an at-large bid.

For Gore, three Gore Pirates high school powerlifters qualified for this week’s Class A State Meet in El Reno by placing in the top five at the regional meet last Friday at Hartshorne.

Gore seventh-grader Gage Young was the regional champion at 220 pounds in the seventh-grade division as he had a total lift of 670 pounds.

Gore heavyweight powerlifter T.J. Abercrombie was regional runner-up with a total lift of 1,290 pounds.

In the freshmen division, 168-pounder Seth Current was second with 935 pounds total lifted.

Marcus Scott was fifth at 220 pounds with a total lift of 1,155 pounds.

Gore’s 105-pounder Wyatt Chitty grabbed a berth to the Class A Junior High State Meet as he was fourth in the eighth-grade division with a total lift of 440 pounds.

Jacob Hites, who was at heavyweight division in the seventh-grade division, earned his berth to state as he was fifth with a total lift of 635 pounds.

A fifth Pirate who earned a trip to state was seventh-grader Aiden Robertson, who was fifth at 114 pounds as he lifted a total of 470 pounds.

Beau Moore is the sixth Pirate to earn a trip to state as he was third at 123 pounds in the eighth-grade division with a total lift of 640 pounds.

Devon Mannon also punched his ticket to state as he got an at-large berth to state in the 168-pound division as he was seventh with a lift of 1,045 pounds total.

As for other Pirates, Jace Gates just missed out on making state as he was sixth at 168 pounds with a total lift of 650 pounds.

Another Pirate powerlifter who just missed the cut in making this week’s Class A State Meet was Jaxon Denton as he also was sixth at 220 pounds as he lifted a total of 895 pounds.

Riley Gilley was eighth at heavyweight in the seventh-grade division as he lifted a total of 600 pounds even.

Preston Grubaugh (395 pounds total lifted) and Bryson Franco (385) were ninth and 10th, respectively, at 114 pounds in the seventhgrade division.

Maden Smith was ninth at heavyweight with a total of 1,055 pounds lifted.

Cole Ralston was 10th at 123 pounds with a total lift of 640 pounds.

One Gans Grizzly powerlifter qualified for state at the Class B, Division II Regional Meet in Hartshorne.

Anthony Vasquez was the regional champion at 181 pounds with a total lift of 1,385 pounds at last Friday’s regional meet.

As for other Gans powerlifters, at heavyweight, Alejandro Martinez was seventh as he lifted 925 pounds total but did not earn an at-large berth to state.

Gans 157-pounder Dalton Scott was ninth with a total lift of 885 pounds.

At 198 pounds, Jaxon Ragsdale lifted a total of 885 pounds but did not place.

Garrett Overby had a total lift of 630 pounds in the 242-pound division but did not place.

The Roland Rangers competed at the Class 3A Regional Meet in Muskogee, but did not qualify any powerlifters for state.

At 145 pounds, Alexander Criswell had a total lift of 735 pounds and bit did not get an at-large berth to this week’s Class 3A State Meet in El Reno.

Novion Reagan had a total lift of 790 pounds in the 168-pound division, but did not receive an at-large bid to state.

At 198 pounds, Joshawa Crase had a total lift of 1,030 but did not get an automatic bid to state.

Talen Reese lifted a total of 985 pounds in the 220-pound division but did not receive an at-large bid to state.

At 242 pounds, Jeremiah Peters had a total lift of 1,110 but did not earn an automatic state bid and did not get an at-large bid to state.

John Allen had a total lift of 1,075 pounds in the 275-pound division but missed out on automatically qualifying for state and did not get an at-large state bid.
