Central wins opener, makes new coach winner in debut

WARNER — The Central Tigers won their 2026 season opener and, in turn, made a winner in new coach Colby Thompson’s debut as the Tigers beat the Warner Eagles 10-6 on Tuesday evening.

The Tigers (1-0) rallied from a 6-5 fourth-inning deficit by scoring three runs in the fifth inning and twice in the seventh inning to get the come-from-behind win.

For the game, Kaw-Liga Lewis was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and a run batted in, Paitton Merrill was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI and Tite Cox doubled with an RBI for Central.

Cox (1-0) got the win in relief as he went 2.1 innings with a strikeout. Kiefer Bailey got the start and went 1.2 innings with four Ks, then Lewis went the next 1.1 innings with three strikeouts. Ryker Miller got the save, going the final 1.2 innings with four Ks.

VIAN 4, TALIHINA 2

Tuesday afternoon at Vian, the Wolverines (4-1) broke a 2-all tie with a two-run fifth inning.

For the game, Clayton Thomas doubled with a run batted in, Drake Collins singled with an RBI and a run scored, Draighton Fletcher singled and scored once, Riley Ellis and Jeremiah Marshall each singled with an RBI

GORE 12, KEOTA 0, 3 INN.

Tuesday afternoon at Gore, pitchers Dane Gatesand Tate Brooksher combined on a two-hitter.

Brooksher (1-0) got the win in relief as he went the final 2.1 innings with six strikeouts. Gates got the start and got the first two outs of the game by strikeout.

The Pirates (2-0) put away the game early with a six-run first inning. A four-run second inning and a two-run third inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, James Brasuell was 3-for-3 with three doubles, four runs batted in and two runs scored, Brooksher was 2-for-2 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI, Kason Short was 2-for-2, Eli Munson doubled with two RBIs and Gage Dame doubled with two RBIs and a run scored for Gore.

OKAY 8, WEBBERS FALLS 0, 4 INN.

Tuesday afternoon in Okay, the Warriors (33) were two-hit by Okay pitcher David Brunson, who struck out six batters in four innings.

The Mustangs (1-1), who won their home opener, scored five runs in the first inning and single runs in the each of the next three innings to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Clayton Roberts and Rocky Greenfield each singled for Webbers Falls. Trysten Wilbourn (0-2) suffered the loss.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Sallisaw’s road District 4A-8 game Tuesday at Muldrow was postponed.
