Any raises for police and fire?
Dear Editor, I love the city of Sallisaw. My family and I have lived here for 50 years.
I see that the City Commissioners approved almost $823,000 for the police department and fire department. My question is, will there be any raises for those employees? Just asking.

Daily prayer for our elected officials
Our elected officials face various problems, daily, that need simple solutions immediately. They have a difficult time making serious decisions everyday that affect the lives of all of us. They consider different ways to solve these problems that would be legal, moral and fair to all and also that would produce the desired results. Each option has many pros and cons, therefore, regardless whichever choice they make their opponents will criticize their decision and throw up all the negative cons in their face and just have a field day with them. And, the general public at large will be swayed to believe the enemy of that official. That‚s why Politics is a dirty business.
I often tell my people that I don‚t know what I‚d do if I were in that position and was forced to do something and do it now! The news media should be honest and report the exact news without implying something, no withholding vital information and no false accusations of a person, committee or country.
We are all human and we get excited and think and say things that we shouldn‚t but a professional person should be able to discipline self and perform their duties righteously, be it a policeman, newsman, judge or preacher, because many value our statements with high esteem and that will affect their belief and behavior.
We profess to believe in God and the Bible but are we like the ones Jesus said, “YE HONOR ME WITH YOUR LIPS, BUT YOUR HEART IS FAR FROM ME.” Let‚s pray to God that God‚s Spirit will inspire our officials to make Godly choices and encourage them to stand for righteousness, and stand against evil wickedness and ungodliness: let‚s pray daily and watch God work.
