Bids awarded, firemen’s, VFW dinners slated
Sequoyah County Commissioners at Monday’s meeting opened and awarded a bid for two one-half ton trucks for the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office.
The bid was awarded to John Vance Motors of Guthrie in the amount of $60,055 for a Dodge truck and $59,470 for a Ford truck. Following the approval, Sequoyah County Undersheriff Charles House said the trucks would be purchased outright by the sheriff’s office.
In other business, the commissioners approved a claim of reimbursement for a County Improvements to Roads and Bridges (CIRB) project for Sallisaw View in District 3.
In addition, District 3 Commissioner Jim Rogers announced the annual Firemen’s Appreciation Dinner will be held Dec. 1. The event, which includes a dinner for all volunteer firemen from the county and their families, door prizes and a recognition service, will be held at the Sequoyah County Fairgrounds building.
Lindsie Dyer, who is helping to coordinate today’s Community Thanksgiving dinner, reminded the commissioners of the event and said the VFW will also host a meal today beginning at 2 p.m. at the VFW building in Sallisaw.
Dyer also said she has about 200 angels from the District 1 Angel Tree for those who want to purchase a gift for the angel.
