Letter to the Editor

Difficult directions

Dear Editor, When people ask, “Where is your church?” I try to tell them where it is by saying, “It is nine miles north of Muldrow on Hwy 101.” If they give a blank look I tell them, “It is 13 miles Northeast of Sallisaw on Hwy. 101.” If they are still wondering I say, “It is two and onequarter miles East of Sequoyah’s Home.” If their jaw drops and they shake their head sideways I say, “It’s four and threequarter miles East of Akins Cemetery, you know where Pretty Boy Floyd is buried.” Then the light comes on and they’ll say, “Oh yeah, I’ve been by there, it’s on the corner, isn’t it?”

Of course, there are some that don’t understand where it is even after I tell them directions about how to get there. It’s similar to preaching the Gospel of Christ, THE POWER OF GOD UNTO SALVATION TO EVERYONE THAT BELIEVES ON JESUS ENTIRELY AND COMPLETELY, without any added pollution or subtracted dilution, they can be saved from the guilt and penalty of their sin quickly, instantly and immediately for all eternity from that moment on by receiving Jesus Christ into their heart as their personal Lord and Savior.

Some receive Christ by faith and rejoice in their salvation the rest of their earthly life; others reject it, for some odd reason, they say, “it’s not for me at this particular time.” My jaw drops and I twist my head sideways as I wonder why they do not want to become a Christian. Is God not good enough for them? Is there something wrong with God’s love to them? Did they not understand that Jesus died for them as much as He died for anyone?

God sends people to help them understand their need for God in their life and how to pray for forgiveness and receive mercy. We can encourage them and pray for them, but we cannot do their repenting; they must want to be forgiven, to be saved, yes, they must want Jesus in their life because it is a personal thing between that individual and Almighty God.

All churches teach and preach that Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven; if you know where one is then go to that church and listen and learn. Amen.
