Pirates suffer home losses to Quinton

By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

It was not a terrific Tuesday for the Gore High School basketball teams as they each lost their respective home contests to the visiting Quinton squads at Gore Event Center.

The Lady Pirates were kept winless as they fell 84-19 to the Lady Savages, then the Pirates lost 44-33 to the Savages. In the girls’ game, the Lady Savages put away the game early, leading 27-6 after a quarter. In defeat, Ricki Huckbay and Andi Summerlin led the Lady Pirates (04) with four points each, followed by Gracie Bruce and Kaitlyn Byrne each with three points, Paige Curran and Natalie Casteel with two points each and Emily Daily wit a free throw.

In the boys’ contest, the Savages jumped out to a 9-5 lead after a period, but the Pirates (2-2) outscored them 9-7 in the second quarter to cut the Gore deficit to 16–14 at halftime. The Savages used an 11-6 third quarter to up Quinton’s advantage to 27-20 entering the final period. Quinton outscored Gore 17-13 in the fourth quarter to keep the Pirates at bay.

In defeat, Bryon McDuffie scored 12 points and Burr Jaynes added 10 points to lead the Pirates, followed by Tate Brooksher with seven points and Journey Shells with four points.

EDITOR’S NOTE — Central’s home games Tuesday night vs. Howe were postponed until 6 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 19.
