Central ends week with home sweeps over Gans, Westville

After opening last week with a pair of homecoming wins over Vian on Jan. 23, the Central High School basketball teams ended with week with two more home sweeps.

On Thursday night, the Central teams swept Gans as the Tigers beat the Grizzlies 60-39 after the Lady Tigers tamed the Lady Grizzlies 65-25.

Just 24 hours later, the Central squads did the same thing to Westville as the Lady Tigers stung the Lady Yellowjackets 61-36 followed by the Tigers stinging the ’Jackets 64-40.

In the Central boys’ win over Gans, the Tigers (11-7) led 1710 after a period and never relinquished the lead.

Tucker

For the game, Cade Tucker scored a game-high 20 points to lead Central, followed by Jace Mendenhall with 10 points, Hardy Buzzard with six points, Aiden Sainer and Devon Baggs with five points each, Nathan Vann with four points, Joseph Lee and Coy Blackburn each with three points and Isaac Rogers and Cole Holcomb with two points apiece.

In defeat, Josh Brunk led the Grizzlies with 14 points, followed by Mayson Clifton with eight points, Nakota White with six points, Clay Martin with five points and Ashton Langston, Clay Martinez and Riley Pullin with two points apiece.

In the Central girls’ victory over Gans, the Lady Tigers (153) jumped out to a 22-6 lead after a period and never looked back.

For the contest, Cambree Bair scored a game-high 15 points and Ayrland Jiles added 10 points to lead Central, followed by Gracie Thompson with six points, Hadlie Woods, Alyssa Harris, Haley Cheek, Paris Campbell and Alyvia Warner with four points each, Brianna Taylor with three points and Koda Robbins, Autumn Cernicek and Keeley Poindexter with two points apiece.

In defeat, Melania Paniagua scored six points to lead Gans, followed by K’Cee Osburn, Stevie Pratt, Brighton Dorsey and Amarys White with four points each and Brianna Burris with three points.

In the Central girls’ win over Westville, the Lady Tigers rallied from a 10-8 deficit at the end of the third quarter as they outscored the Lady Yellowjackets 53-26 over the final three periods to get the come-from-behind win.

For the game, Cheek led Central with a game high 20 points, followed by Bair with 16 points, Robbins with nine points, Jiles with seven points, Woods with three points and Warner, Campbell and Cheyenne Busch with two points apiece.

In the Central boys’ victory over Westville, the Tigers stung the Yellowjackets with a 21-5 first quarter and never lost their advantage.

For the game, Baggs scored a game-high 19 points to lead Central, followed by Sainer and Rogers with nine points each, Tucker with eight points, Lee with seven points, Blackburn with six points and Hardy Buzzard, Mendenhall and Braxin Goodson with two points apiece.
