Roland Public Schools locked down on Thursday

According to reports and a post on Roland Public Schools‚ Facebook page on Thursday, the school was locked down as a precaution while Roland police apprehended a suspect.

According to reports, the suspect fled on foot when police tried to apprehend him at Cherokee Casino in Roland. The suspect reportedly fled into the woods near the school and was detained about 45 minutes to an hour later.

The school‚s post read, “For the safety and security of all of our students, we are currently in lockdown. The Roland Police Department advised, therefore we are following safety precautions. All students and staff are safely indoors and parents will be notified when the situation changes. Thank you for your patience in this matter.”

The school later posted “Roland Police has advised it is safe to return to school for normal activities, and that once again, the students‚ and staff‚s safety was our number one priority.”
