Lady Pirates start postseason at home Friday

Pirates begin playoffs Saturday

Gore’s Lady Pirates start their postseason at 6 p.m. Friday night inside the Gore Event Center when they take on Porter Consolidated in their Class A, Area III, District 8 tournament opener.

The Gore boys (15-3 overall), who received a bye, will play the Porter-Porum winner at 7:30 Saturday night in Gore for the district championship.

The Lady Pirates (5-11) won 56-45 at Porter (8-12) on Jan. 17. The winner of Friday’s game meets Porum (13-6) for the district title at 6 p.m. Saturday and the loser is eliminated.

The district champions and runner-ups advance to next week’s regional tournament.

Gore ended its regular season at home Monday night against Class 2A Hulbert.

Hulbert girls 43, Gore 39

The Lady Pirates’ second-half rally fell short Monday night in Gore (5-11 overall) as the Lady Riders (9-11) hung on for the non-conference win.

Hulbert led 10-2 after the first eight minutes and 21-8 at the half after adding five points (11-6) to its advantage in the second frame. Oaklei Thornton registered Gore’s points in the first stanza and Kennedy Williams totaled three in the second for the hosts. Williams (7 points), Emily Daily (4) and Natalie Casteel (3-pointer) provided Gore’s scoring in the third frame as the Lady Pirates trimmed three points (1411) off the deficit (33-22).

In the fourth quarter Casteel (5 points) hit her second 3-pointer and Thornton added a pair of 2-point field goals to help the Lady Pirates slice six points (17-11) off the final deficit.

Scoring for Gore in the contest were Williams (12 points), Casteel (8), Thornton and Daily (6 each), Aspyn Cearley (3) and Lilly Wooten and Rayleigh Moore (2 apiece).

Scoring for Hulbert were Sadie Chambers (21 points), Brea Lamb (16) and Alyssa Fair (6).

Gore boys 64, Hulbert 35 The Pirates (15-3 overall) downed the Riders (5-13) Monday night at home to end their regular season on a nine-game winning streak.

In the opening quarter Jackson Duke (8 points) hit two 3-pointers, Noah Cooper made a pair of 2-point field goals and Ben Kirkpatrick (trey) and Kiegan Reid added three points apiece to help Gore go in front 22-8.

Noah Cooper registered four points in the second stanza and Tate Brooksher and Cain Cooper each made a 3-pointer as the Pirates added a point (14-13) to their advantage to lead 36-21 at the break.

Gore outscored the Riders 16-9 in the third period and 12-5 in the fourth. Noah Cooper (7 points) and Kirkpatrick (5) were the Pirates’ top scorers in the third and Aidan Dickerson totaled seven points in the fourth.

Providing Gore’s points in the game were Noah Cooper (15 points), Duke (12), Dickerson (9), Kirkpatrick and Journey Shells (8), Cain Cooper (4), Reid and Brooksher (3 each) and Nash Thouvenel (2).

Scoring for Hulbert were Adam Hinkle (20 points), Cody Botts (6), Jake Irizarry (4), Tyler Simpson and Tanner Vaughn (2 each) and Kris Glenn (1).
