Sallisaw celebrates junior high powerlifting state championship
EL RENO – The Sallisaw Black Diamonds junior high powerlifting team showcased seven lifters who placed in the OSSAA State Powerlifting meet Thursday, with the top lifter being freshman Matthew McGrew. McGrew won the state championship lifting in the 123-lb. weight class with a total combined weight of 820 lbs. (175 bench, 290 squat and 355 deadlift), which was enough to take top honors for Sallisaw. Head coach Stephen Mapp had a lot to be thankful for in his first year at the helm of the program, including the performance of his charges during the lifting season.
