Promoting awareness

Sallisaw Mayor Ernie Martens this week signed three proclamations declaring National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week, Vaping Awareness Month and Alcohol Awareness Month in Sallisaw. On hand for the signings at the Stanley Tubbs Memorial Library were members of Sallisaw NOW Coalition, Sallisaw Youth Coalition, Sallisaw Health and Wellness Center, Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, Sequoyah County Health Department, National Bank of Sallisaw, Scofous Law and People Inc. National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week, which encourages teens to ask questions about drugs, drug abuse, alcohol and alcoholism and receive scientifically based facts and answers in return, continues through Sunday. Vaping Awareness Month, which promotes awareness for the harmful and addictive effects of vaping, continues through March 31. Alcohol Awareness Month, which brings to light the deleterious effects of underage drinking, and promotes alcohol prevention and alcohol responsibility, April.
