SALLISAW WRESTLING

Lady Diamonds wrestlers do well in first three tournaments of season

By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

The Sallisaw Lady Diamonds wrestlers were pretty successful in their first three tournaments of the season.

The latest one in which the Lady Diamonds hit the mat was the Warner Eagle Classic, which took place Nov. 20, in which nine high school wrestlers and six junior high wrestlers placed.

In the high school division, Emilie Robbins (155 pounds) and Hannah Lightfoot (190) were champions, while Halle Wassenberg (100) and Abby Gardenhire (170) were runnersup.

Zoie Reed (100 pounds), Mattie Schuh (105), Paige Frederick (115) and Kasey Adame (125, who was back in action after suffering a broken clavicle in December) finished third, while Ellie Bryars (110) was fifth.

At the Broken Arrow Tournament on Nov. 11, eight Lady Diamonds placed.

In the high school division, Robbins and Lightfoot were second, and Wassenberg was fourth.

In the junior high division, Jamie Martin, wrestling in only her second-ever tournament, was the champion in the 208221 pound class, while Hadlee McFarland was third and Destiny Clarke was fifth in the 95-100 pound class.

In the sixth-seventh grade division, Sagan Schuluz was third and Riley Bridges was fourth in the 95-105 pound class.

The season-opening action took place Nov. 4 at the Bixby Open Tournament.

Frederick, Melania Duke, Addison McLaughlin and Brinley Mills all finished in first place, Clark and Nikiah Lindsey were runners-up, McFarland, Robbins and Kinlee Stone were third and Martin, Reed and Mikaylynn Gaghins were fourth.

The Lady Diamonds high school wrestlers will participate in the Jay Border Wars Tournament, which will take place at noon Friday and Saturday.

The next action for the junior high wrestlers will take place when they and the SHS wrestlers take part in the Wilburton Lady Digger Classic Tournament, which will take place at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 8.
