Warrior teams open basketball season with road sweep at Arkoma

ARKOMA — A new era of Webbers Falls Lady Warriors basketball got started on a victorious note as new coach Garren Weatherton got her first win with her new team as the Lady Warriors opened their 2023-24 season with a 40-26 road win over the Arkoma Lady Mustangs at Neil Brannon Gymnasium.

The Warriors then followed suit with a 47-43 overtime win over the Mustangs.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Warriors (1-0) had a pair of double-digit scorers on the night as Bridgette Baer scored a team-high 16 points and Teralynn Colston added 11 points. Cheyanne Herrier scored seven points, followed by Abby Pense with four points and Audri Spears with two points.

In the boys’ contest, after the Mustangs outscored the Warriors (1-0) 9-6 in the fourth quarter to force overtime tied at 41, Webbers Falls outscored Arkoma 6-2 in the extra session to get the road victory.

Stryker Chappell scored a game-high 16 points and Luke Pierce added 14 points to lead the Warriors, followed by Maddux Shelby with eight points, Cale Dishman with four points, Denver Morgan with three points and Braydan Robinson with two points.
