Overturned semi and fire closes I-40

Just after 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, the westbound lanes of I-40 at mile marker 295 were completely shut down due to a semi that had overturned and caught fire, leaking diesel.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported all westbound traffic was diverted onto U.S. 64 to get around the area, while the accident site was cleaned up.

The interstate reopened completely about 3:15 p.m., nine hours and 42 minutes after the accident occurred.
