Roland basketball teams get road sweep over Poteau
POTEAU — The Roland High School basketball teams capped a perfect week as they each got a road win over Poteau on Friday night at Poteau High School’s Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
The Running Rangers won 5434 right after the Lady Rangers defeated the Lady Pirates 6143.
In the Roland boys’ victory over Poteau, Davohn Hall scored a game-high 21 points, while Carson Wiggins added 15 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double to lead the Running Rangers (4-0 overall, 3-0 in NOAA Conference play). Buck Triplett and Cason Perryman each scored seven points, followed by Paul Johnson and Raesean Perryman had two points apiece.
In the girls’ win over Poteau, the Lady Rangers (3-1, 2-1) made it a happy homecoming of sorts for new Lady Rangers coach Scott Nelke, who formerly coached the Poteau Pirates.
Roland’s girls led virtually from opening tip to final buzzer as the Lady Rangers led 17-11 after a quarter, 32-18 at halftime and 46-30 entering the final period.
For the game, the Lady Rangers put three players into double figures, led by Halle Freeman’s gamehigh 19 points, followed by Lilly Medicine Bird with 16 points and Haven Freeman with 13 points. Addison Cole had seven points, followed by Ryanne Nelke with four points and Brooklyn Decker with two points.
The Roland teams will be in the Choctaw Nation Invitation Tournament, which will begin Thursday and end Saturday on Chris Gillespie Court at Ray Henson Gymnasium at Talihina High School.
