Business license deadline is Dec. 31

By Lynn Adams Staff Writer

Deadline for obtaining or renewing a license for operating a business in Sallisaw is just around the corner — really.

The registration process — which is rather simple — must be completed by Dec. 31.

“Obtaining or renewing a business license is an important step in operating a business,” City Manager Keith Skelton says. “It is a document that authorizes a business to operate legally and in accordance with local and state laws.”

Business licenses are required for a variety of reasons, Skelton says, including ensuring that the business is compliant with zoning and safety regulations, properly paying taxes due, and obtaining any other necessary permits or licenses.

“For operating a business in Sallisaw, the process of obtaining a business license is very simple and can be completed at City Hall, online or by email,” Skelton says.

There is currently no fee for obtaining certain business licenses. If your business is one that does require a fee, you will be notified, Skelton says.

“In the past, the city has only collected data and fees on certain types of businesses, such as liquor and marijuana facilities,” Skelton says. “The information collected will help us in a variety of ways, including identifying areas we need to recruit businesses in. Once our database is updated, we will continue to update each business on a yearly basis. Unless otherwise noted, obtaining a General Business Permit will not incur any fees at this time.”

Business license applications can be mailed to City of Sallisaw, Attention: Business License, P.O. Box 525, Sallisaw 74955 or emailed to businesspermit@ sallisawok. org. The application can also be completed online at www.sallisawok.org/ businesslicense.

For questions, call City Hall at 775-6241 to talk to Kim Jamison (ext. 203) or Necole Emerson (ext. 217), or email businesspermit@ sallisawok. org.
