Rangers enter Christmas break by sweeping Sequoyah-Tahlequah
To close out the pre-Christmas break portion of their season Thursday night at the Ranger Dome, the Roland teams swept Sequoyah-Tahlequah as the Lady Rangers opened the night with a 47-26 win over the Lady Indians, then the Running Rangers ended the night with a 45-32 victory over the Indians.
In the Roland girls’ win over Sequoyah-Tahlequah, the Lady Rangers (7-2 overall) made sure there was not going to be a comeback by the opposition like what happened 48 hours before — when they lost a third-quarter lead and fell 44-38 to rival Muldrow. Roland jumped out to a 14-2 lead after a quarter, en route to a 25-7 halftime advantage and a 35-14 lead going into the fourth quarter.
For the game, Ryanne Nelke scored a game-high 17 points and Haven Freeman added 11 points to lead Roland, followed by Halle Freeman with eight points, Kynlei Earnhart with six points and Lilly Medicine Bird with five points.
In the Roland boys’ victory over Sequoyah-Tahlequah, the Running Rangers (8-1) jumped out to a 15-13 lead after a period, then doubled up the Indians 12-6 in the second quarter for a 27-19 halftime advantage. After the Indians used an 8-3 third quarter to cut their deficit to 30-27 entering the final period, the Running Rangers put away the game with a 15-5 fourth quarter.
For the game, Carson Wiggins led Roland with 13 points, followed by DaVohn Hall with eight points, Mason Kemp with seven points, Kade Shook with six points, Raesean Perryman with five points and Buck Triplett, Cason Perryman and Paul Johnson with two points apiece.
