Black Diamond squads suffer NOAA Conference road losses to Stilwell

STILWELL — It was a rough night of NOAA Conference basketball for the Sallisaw HIgh School basketball teams Friday night as they each suffered a road loss to host Stilwell.

The Lady Diamonds suffered a 76-33 loss to the Lady Indians, then the Indians completed the sweep with a 71-53 victory over the Black Diamonds.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Indians grabbed a 22-12 lead after the first quarter en route to a 35-20 halftime advantage and a 56-29 lead going into the final period.

In defeat, Abby Kate Qualls led the Lady Diamonds (4-9 overall, 1-4 in NOAA Conference play) with 10 points, followed by Sydney Weedon with seven points, Emma Martin and Hannah Palmer with six points each and Addy Orendorff with four points.

In the boys’ contest, the Black Diamonds (6-7, 1-4) led 17-13 after a period, but the Indians outscored them 11-5 in the second quarter to take a 24 22 halftime lead. Stilwell then outscored Sallisaw 47-31 in the second half to complete the come-from-behind win. In defeat, Wes Rodriguez scored 12 points and Cooper Jackson added 10 points to lead Sallisaw, followed by Cooper Carter with eight points, Kenyan Hill with seven points, Cooper Cox with six points, Rustyn Romero with four, Max Stump with three points and Brodi Nickell with two points.

Monday night’s road games at Stigler were snowed out, and no rescheduled date has been set for the game as of press time.

The Sallisaw teams will participate in the Pryor Invitation Tournament, which takes place Thursday through Saturday. The Lady Diamonds will face tournament host Pryor at 1 p,m. Thursday, while the Black Diamonds will play Skiatook at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
