Sallisaw DB makes All-State football team; Black Diamonds QB, DL, Central duo, Gore lineman are alternates (UPDATED)

One Sallisaw Black Diamonds football player received good news from the Oklahoma Coaches Association this week.

Sallisaw defensive back/running back Cole Stephens was named to the All-State East Football Team’s defensive unit. Five other locals were in line for the same honor as they were named to the All-Star Team by Class — Sallisaw quarterback Brock Streun and defensive lineman Noah Flores, Central QB Joseph Lee and wide receiver Cade Tucker and Gore offensive lineman Layne Ward. Any or all four of these players also are All-State alternates, who can be called up to replace a current All-State East Team member should he or they not be able to play in the game.

The All-State Football Game will take place in late July.

Defensively, Stephens, who was named as the Co-Running Back of the Year on the All-District 4A-4 Team, had 70 tackles, 33 solo, with eight tackles for loss, one-half of a quarterback sack, a QB hurry, three interceptions, two fumble recoveries. two caused fumbles and a pass breakup. Offensively, Stephens rushed for 1,040 yards and scored 16 touchdowns, while catching 12 passes for 115 yards and a TD.

Streun passed for 844 yards and eight touchdowns, while rushing for 1,138 yards and 16 TDs.

Flores had 39 tackles, with nine solo. He had 4.5 quarterback sacks and 11 QB hurries to go with an interception, a pass break-up and a fumble recovery. He was the Co-Defensive Player of the Year on the All-District 4A-4 Team.

Lee was named the Quarterback of the Year on the All-District A-8 Team, while Tucker made first team all-district.

Ward was named the Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year.
