Wolverines drop road baseball game to Wagoner

By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

WAGONER — The Vian Wolverines suffered an 11-2, five-inning loss to the host Wagoner Bulldogs on Tuesday evening.

The Wolverines (1-2) scored first on Michael Polecat’s RBI single in the first inning, but from there it was all Bulldogs as they scored twice in the first inning and six runs in the second inning for an 8-1 after two innings.

Riley Ellis hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning to cut Vian’s deficit to 8-2, but the Wolverines got no closer.

The ’Dogs scored three runs in the third inning to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Polecat and Ellis each singled and had a run batted in, while Draighton Fletcher and Gabe Gilbert each singled.

Gilbert (0-1) took the loss, going four innings with a strikeout.

After the Wolverines visited Poteau on Thursday, they will have a home game at 4 this afternoon against Red Oak, visit Sallisaw for a 1 p.m. Saturday game and will visit Oktaha at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
