Black Diamonds coach named OCA Region 3 Coach of the Year
Yet another honor came Sallisaw Black Diamonds wrestling coach Mark Smith’s way.
Smith was named the 2024 Oklahoma Coaches Association (OCA) Region 3 Wrestling Coach of the Year after he was named the Oklahoma Wrestling Coaches Association Class 4A Coach of the Year.
The Black Diamonds went 10-1 in this past high school wrestling season, make it to the Class 4A Dual State semifinals and saw 10 of their wrestlers making state, with two winning state titles — 150-pounder Cole Mayfield and 106-pounder Cason Craft — and two more placing — 165-pounder Bodie Adams as state runner-up and 215-pounder Noah Flores coming in third. The Black Diamonds also were honored for being the Class 4A state academic runners-up and finished third at the state tournament.
